Q: Where is the field located? |
A: The flying field is located off Davis Lake Rd. on Fred Sawgle Dr. between M-24 and Millville road. There is also a map located on this page. |
Q: What does it cost to join the club? |
A: The annual membership fee for a junior member ( age 17 and under) is $25. 00 and adult membership is $75.00 which is well below other clubs. An AMA membership is also required to fly at our, as well as most other club’s fields. Here is a link to the AMA enrollment page for the most up to date AMA price. |
Q: What is the AMA? |
A: AMA (Academy of Model Aeronautics) is the national organization for model aviation in the US. It is a self-supporting, non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote the development of model aviation as a recognized sport and worthwhile recreational activity. |
Q: Why do I have to join the AMA? |
A: Your membership in the AMA provides you, in addition to other benefits, with liability insurance in the event that your plane is involved in an accident resulting in personal injury and / or property damage. |
Q: Is there someone who can show me how to fly? |
A: Absolutely! We have instructors who are more than willing to help you with learning how to fly as well as familiarizing you with our field and safety rules. |

Lapeer County RC Wing Nuts Field Rules
1: All AMA safety rules apply at the field. |
2: An AMA membership for the current year is required to fly at this field. |
3: All aircraft must carry an identification / registration label in accordance with AMA and FAA rules. |
4: A club member in good standing must accompany visitors wanting to fly. The flying non-AMA member pilot is allowed 1 fight, after which they will be required to join both the AMA and the Club to continue flying. |
5: No controlled substances are allowed on the field or any area under the Lapeer County Wing Nuts jurisdiction. Alcohol cannot be consumed during flight operations. |
6: FM transmitters should be placed on a shelf at the radio impound shelter. When ready to use your radio, select the proper frequency tag, if available, and display the tag on the radio. Note: you may be responsible for the replacement or repair of an aircraft that crashes because of your frequency incursion. |
7: Pre-flight check your plane and radio before flying. (Range check – minimum of 30 paces) |
8: Spotters are required if more than 3 airplanes are in the air flying at one time. |
9: No spectators are allowed beyond the pit area fence. |
10: All guests must follow club rules and be accompanied by a club member. |
11: Nitro or gas powered planes must be in the pit area when being started, secured with a tail restraint and/ or an assistant. |
12: Electric powered planes must be armed/ disarmed at the flight line, or otherwise secured with a tail restraint and/or an assistant if armed. |
13: Engines should be “tuned” from behind rather than in front of the spinning propeller. Never stand in-line of a spinning prop. |
14: No taxiing is allowed in the pit area. Planes must be taken out to the flight line and back to the pit area by carrying or rolling. |
15: Helicopters are to be positioned on the flying field for starting, take offs, and landings. |
16: All flying is to be done from a pilot station. |
17: No flying is allowed over the flight line, pit areas, or parking lot. |
18: Pilots must announce their attempt to land, and presence on the field, to any other pilots at the flight line. |
19: Dead stick landings must be announced and will have the right of way” over powered landings. |
20: Immediately announce an “out of control” aircraft. |
